About Sahyadrimetrus scaber (Thorell, 1876)
Sahyadrimetrus scaber can be distinguished by a set of shared and sex-specific morphological traits. It has a vaulted carapace with steep lateral sides, margins that converge toward the posterior, and a granular interocular surface. Females of this species have granular posterolateral carapace surfaces, no dorsomedian patella carina, and smooth intercarinal surfaces on the chela manus. Adult males have short pedipalps. The species also has a distinct setae morphology on the basitarsi of its legs. Additional consistent traits include granular mesosomal tergites, smooth ventral intercarinal surfaces on metasomal segment IV, and distinct, continuous dorsolateral carinae on metasomal segment V. Sahyadrimetrus scaber is endemic to southern India, with confirmed recorded occurrences in Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa.
