About Saccharum spontaneum L.

Saccharum spontaneum, commonly known as wild sugarcane or kans grass, is a perennial grass species. It is native to large parts of tropical and subtropical Asia, northern Australia, and eastern and northern Africa. This species grows to a maximum height of three meters, and has spreading, rhizomatous roots. It has hybridized with Saccharum officinarum, the domesticated sugarcane, and this hybridization has given rise to two additional sugarcane species: Saccharum barberi and Saccharum sinense.
