About Rytidosperma caespitosum (Gaudich.) Connor & Edgar
Rytidosperma caespitosum is a tufted perennial grass that grows up to 90 centimetres in height. Its glumes are green, with or without purple coloring. The grass produces a panicle that holds between 10 and 30 spikelets, and each spikelet contains four to nine individual flowers. This species is found across the wetter, cooler regions of southern Australia, and its range extends into hot, arid areas such as Shark Bay. Its multiple different forms grow across a wide diversity of habitats, and can tolerate a range of salinity levels and various soil types, including sand, loam, limestone, granite, and laterite. It is recognized as one of the main native pasture grasses in southern Australia. Flowering takes place in spring or summer, typically triggered by rainfall.
