About Russula olivacea (Schaeff.) Fr.

The scientific name of this mushroom is Russula olivacea (Schaeff.) Fr. When young, its cap is convex, and it flattens out as it matures. Young caps are yellowish-olive, and age to a rusty brown color. Cap diameter ranges from 10 to 30 cm (3.9 to 11.8 in). Its gills are cream-colored, turning deep ochre when old; they are rather crowded and brittle. Spores of this species are yellow. The stem is strong, evenly thick, and often pale pink, measuring 7–18 cm (2.8–7.1 in) long and 2–6 cm (0.8–2.4 in) wide. The flesh is firm, white, has a pleasant or unremarkable scent, and a mild or nutty taste. Reports differ on whether it is edible, with some sources noting it may be toxic and cause gastrointestinal upset.
