About Russula flavida Frost ex Peck
Russula flavida has a bright yellow to orange-yellow cap and stipe, with white gills. The cap is convex with a central depression, and measures 2.5โ8 centimetres (1โ3+1โ4 inches) wide. The stem is 3โ7 cm (1+1โ4โ2+3โ4 inches) long and 1โ2 cm (1โ2โ3โ4 inches) thick. Its spore print is yellowish-cream. From June to September, this species grows on the ground under hardwood trees in North America, ranging from eastern Texas to New Hampshire, and it also occurs in parts of Asia. This mushroom is edible, and contains the pigment russulaflavidin plus a related compound.
