About Ruschia leptocalyx L.Bolus

Ruschia leptocalyx L.Bolus is a slender branching shrub. Its leaves are yellowish-gray, glabrous, and sharply triangular in cross-section. The sharp leaf keel has minute serrations, and leaves are approximately 20 millimeters long. The flowers range in color from purple to red, with pink stamens and staminodes at their center. Flowers grow either singly or in small groups, and small bracteoles are present at the base of the flower stalks. The seed capsule is gray, 5-locular, and has a tapering funnel-shaped base. This species occurs in Renosterveld vegetation near Riversdale, in the Overberg region of the southern Western Cape province, South Africa.
