Rupicapra pyrenaica Bonaparte, 1845 grows up to 80 cm tall. Its summer coat is ruddy brown, while its winter coat is black or brown, with darker patches around the eyes. Both males and females have backward-hooked horns that reach up to 20 cm in length. These animals feed by browsing on grass, lichens, and tree buds. They are sure-footed and agile, and can be found at any elevation up to 3000 m.
