It produces relatively large inflorescences, which bear 12 to 25 yellow ray flowers. Each individual ray flower measures approximately 3 to 5 cm in length. This species blooms from late spring through summer. It is native to North America, and its primary native range is in the south-central United States. There is also a disjunct native population located in northwest Georgia. All other small, isolated populations of this species found further east are thought to have come from human introductions.
