About Rubus moluccanus L.
Rubus moluccanus, commonly known as the Molucca bramble or broad-leaf bramble, is a scrambling shrub or climbing plant. It is native to moist eucalyptus forests and rainforests of eastern Australia, where it ranges from Queensland to Victoria. It also occurs naturally in the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Malesia, Papuasia, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and the Caroline Islands. The leaves of Molucca bramble are simple, with 3 to 5 lobes. They measure 2 to 15 cm long and 3 to 10 cm wide, and their lower surface is covered in dense, short matted hairs (tomentose). Its flowers are pinkish red or white, and it produces red fruit that is 1.2 cm wide. The fruit is considered tasty and edible, and is commonly eaten raw directly from the plant. It is also used commercially on a limited basis to make jams and sauces. Additionally, the species is used in traditional health care practices, and its fruit is high in vitamin C.
