About Rubramoena rubescens (Picton & G.H.Brown, 1978)

Adult Rubramoena rubescens typically reach a total size of 12 to 15 mm. This species is extremely similar in appearance to Rubramoena amoena, and can only be distinguished from it by differences in its colour pattern. This species was first scientifically described from a specimen collected at St. John's Point, Dunkineely, County Donegal, Ireland. Verified observations have reported it along the northeastern Atlantic coast, ranging from Norway in the north down to Cornwall in the south. Rubramoena rubescens feeds on hydroids that belong to the genus Halecium, with a particular preference for Halecium halecinum.
