About Rothmannia globosa (Hochst.) Keay

Rothmannia globosa (Hochst.) Keay is a small, highly ornamental South African tree belonging to the Rubiaceae family. It grows in evergreen forests and along forest edges, ranging from the Eastern Cape northward into Limpopo Province and Eswatini. Its bark is greyish-brown and marked with rectangular patterns. Its leaves are glossy, and their undersides often have veins that range from yellowish to maroon, with acarodomatia located in the vein axils. Acarodomatia are common in the Rubiaceae family, and serve as a useful diagnostic trait for identifying plants in this group. The specific epithet "globosa" refers to this species' spherical fruits, which measure around 25 millimeters in diameter.
