About Rostanga rubra (Risso, 1818)

Rostanga rubra (Risso, 1818) ranges in colour from bright orange to reddish-orange. Its dorsal surface is covered with caryophyllidia, and it overall resembles other species in the genus Rostanga. This species was first described from specimens collected in Nice, France. It has been recorded along the Atlantic coasts of Europe from Norway to Spain, as well as from the Canary Islands and Madeira. This nudibranch feeds on three species of red sponges that belong to the family Microcionidae: Ophlitaspongia seriata, Clathria atrasanguinea, and Ophlitaspongia kildensis.
