About Rostanga muscula (Abraham, 1877)
Rostanga muscula is a species of dorid nudibranch. Individuals of this species range in color from bright orange to reddish-orange. Their dorsal surface is covered in structures called caryophyllidia, and this species looks very similar to other species within the genus Rostanga. This species is endemic to New Zealand, where it is a common intertidal organism. Its diet consists of sponges. It is known to feed on the red sponge Microciona coccinea, which belongs to the family Microcionidae, the introduced sponge Ophlitaspongia seriata (also called Ophlitaspongia papilla), and the native sponge Holoplocamium neozelanicum.
