About Ropalidia distigma (Gerst., 1857)

Ropalidia distigma is a species of paper wasp that belongs to the family Vespidae. This species is distributed across southern and southeastern Africa. Individuals of this species build paper nests that are oriented vertically, and the cells inside these nests are oriented horizontally. This differs from wasps in the genus Polistes, which build horizontally oriented nests that contain vertically oriented cells. The larvae of Ropalidia distigma are fed soft-bodied insects, including caterpillars.
