About Riccia cavernosa Hoffm.
Riccia cavernosa Hoffm., also referred to as R. cavernosa, forms rounded rosettes that can grow up to 3 cm in diameter. Each rosette is made of many lobes, which are either oblong or rounded, with the widest section of each lobe positioned above its midpoint. Lobes can reach up to 2.5 mm in width, and have a tip that is roughly truncate. The plants are typically yellow-green in color, and lack any reddish pigmentation; they retain a yellowish appearance even after drying. The upper surface of the thallus has a very short, faint groove that is only present at the lobe tip, alongside perforations that extend almost to the tips of the branches. This species usually grows in moist, open habitats on neutral to base-rich mud. It can be found near reservoirs, lakes, and ponds, as well as in damp depressions in agricultural fields, gravel pits, and sand dunes.
