This species has dull reddish brown coloration on the head, pronotum, abdomen, and lower body. Its legs, the edges of the top of the head, the sides of the face, clypeus, mesonotum, the base of the abdomen, and anal appendage are yellowish brown. The tegmina are pale brown, and the wings are smoky, with darker outer edges and lighter bands and markings across the wings. The total length from the head to the end of the tegmina is approximately 13.5mm. Ricania simulans has widespread populations in Japan, Southern China, Taiwan, Korea, Ukraine, Russia, and Georgia. The species overwinters in the egg stage, and produces one generation per year.
