About Ribes magellanicum Poir.

Ribes magellanicum is a South American currant family shrub species that is native to Patagonia, which covers southern Chile and Argentina. Its fruits can be eaten fresh, or used in preserves and syrups. They have been reported to have a pleasant flavor and sweet taste. The fruits also contain a phenolic compound profile and antioxidant activity that have potential for use in nutraceutical development. Two subspecies of Ribes magellanicum are currently accepted: Ribes magellanicum subsp. magellanicum and Ribes magellanicum subsp. parviflorum Sparre.
