About Rhynchospora rariflora (Michx.) Elliott
Rhynchospora rariflora, commonly known as fewflower beaksedge, is a species of flowering plant in the sedge family Cyperaceae. It is native to North America, with a distribution that includes the southeastern United States, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, and the West Indies. Its typical natural habitat consists of sandy or peaty areas, including wet savannas, seeps, and bogs. This species is a densely tufted perennial that produces delicate, lax stems. Its leaves are nearly thread-like in shape. Its inflorescence is loose and sparsely flowered. In the northern portion of its range, it fruits from late spring to summer, while it is reproductive year-round in the southern portion of its range. It is similar in appearance to Rhynchospora stenophylla; Rhynchospora rariflora can be distinguished from this related species by having bristles that are shorter than its achene body, as well as a smaller tubercle.
