About Rhyacotriton kezeri Good & Wake, 1992

The Columbia torrent salamander, scientifically named Rhyacotriton kezeri, is a salamander species belonging to the family Rhyacotritonidae. It is endemic to the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, where it occurs in coastal areas ranging from Washington to northwestern Oregon. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, rivers, and freshwater springs. This is a small salamander that reaches a maximum total length of 10 centimeters, and it lives in clear, cold mountain streams. The species is threatened by habitat loss. Because this salamander deposits its eggs in hard-to-find, hidden locations, few clear patterns of egg-laying sites have been identified. This has left research on its reproductive ecology with inconclusive results.
