About Rhyacionia buoliana (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
Rhyacionia buoliana (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775, commonly known as the pine shoot moth, is a species of moth in the family Tortricidae. It is native to North Africa, North Asia, and Europe, and has become invasive in North America and South America. This moth has a wingspan ranging from 16 to 24 mm. Its forewings are ferruginous-orange, often partially suffused with dark red, and marked with several irregular, variable, anastomosing metallic grey-whitish striae and costal strigulae. The hindwings are light grey. Fully grown larvae are brown-reddish, with a black head and a black second thoracic plate. In western Europe, adult moths are active on the wing from June to August. Larvae feed on pine trees, with Pinus sylvestris and Pinus nigra as their original host plants.
