About Rhopodytes tristis (Lesson, 1830)
The green-billed malkoha, with the scientific name Rhopodytes tristis (Lesson, 1830), is approximately 50–60 cm long and weighs 100–128 g. It often has a distinct white border around its red facial patch, and the face and neck are colored salty grey. Adult green-billed malkohas have dark grey upperparts with a green gloss, and oily green wings. Their breeding range extends across South Asia, starting east from Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka into Southeast Asia. Their breeding habitat includes primary forest, secondary growth, dense thickets, scrub, cultivated areas, and rubber plantations. They feed mainly on insects, but are also known to catch small lizards and small mammals, and will occasionally catch insects in mid-flight.
