About Rhogogaster punctulata (Klug, 1817)
Rhogogaster punctulata (Klug, 1817) is a species of sawfly. Adults of this species reach a length of 10–12 millimetres, or 0.39–0.47 inches. Both the body and head of this sawfly are bright green. It has a black marking on its head shaped like the Greek letter omega, plus very small black dots along the sides of its abdominal segments. Black markings on the top of the abdomen are either absent or significantly reduced. Like all other sawflies, this species does not have the narrow wasp waist between the thorax and abdomen. The closely related similar species Rhogogaster viridis can be distinguished by the clear, prominent black marks it has on the upper surface of the abdomen. Adult Rhogogaster punctulata are most commonly seen from May through July. This sawfly is widespread across most of Europe, and can be found living along hedgerows and woodland rides.
