About Rhodophana nitellina (Fr.) Papetti

The cap of Rhodophana nitellina ranges from orange to reddish, and it is hygrophanous. Cap shapes include convex, flat, or depressed, with a diameter of 2 to 6 centimeters. The gills are creamy when young, and darken as the mushroom matures; gill attachment can be adnexed or notched. The stipe matches the cap's color, measuring 2 to 5 centimeters long and 2 to 5 millimeters wide. This species produces a pinkish tan spore print. Its scent is either farinaceous or cucumber-like. Rhodophana nitellina grows under western redcedar and other conifers, and produces fruiting bodies during the fall.
