Its most common common name is Taiwan azalea, and it is also known by other names including Oldham's azalea, tropical azalea, and Malaysian rhododendron. This species is native to the mountains of Taiwan. It has additionally been recorded growing in Macau, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Sikkim, India. As a flowering plant, Rhododendron oldhamii is capable of producing flowers and also produces fruits. This species is unable to self-pollinate. Rhododendron oldhamii is toxic and harmful to cats, dogs, and humans.
