Rhizomnium appalachianum T.J.Kop. is a species of moss belonging to the family Mniaceae. It is native to Eastern North America, specifically the Eastern United States and Canada, with a range extending from Manitoba to Newfoundland in the north, and south to South Carolina. Mature plants of this moss grow between 4 and 8 centimeters tall. Compared to other moss species, it has relatively large leaves that typically measure around 6.5 millimeters wide and 10 millimeters long. Its stems are covered in reddish hairs. This moss grows in wet habitats, including along streams and in seeps. It grows especially frequently at habitat edges where the environment transitions from wet to dry conditions.
