About Rhinella granulosa (Spix, 1824)

Rhinella granulosa is a toad species that belongs to the Bufonidae family. It is commonly known as the granular toad and the common lesser toad. This species was redelimited in 2009, and under the new delimitation, it is currently recognized as endemic to Brazil. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) still assesses this species under a broader, older definition of its range. Within this broader definition, the natural habitats of Rhinella granulosa include open areas, savannas, forests, and river shorelines. During the daytime, these toads hide in holes in the ground. Their diet consists of ants and termites. This species is highly adaptable, and it is not considered to be threatened.
