About Rhetus periander (Cramer, 1777)

Rhetus periander, commonly known as the Periander metalmark or variable beautymark, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Riodinidae. This species can be found across most of Central America and South America, with its range extending from Mexico down to Brazil and Argentina. During reproduction, female Rhetus periander look for suitable host plants to lay their eggs during the hottest hours of the day. Females usually lay only one or two eggs on each individual host plant. The full lifecycle of this butterfly, from the egg stage to a fully developed adult, takes 50 days to complete.
