About Rhagoletis meigenii (Loew, 1844)
Rhagoletis meigenii is a species of fly that reaches an adult body length of approximately 8 to 10 millimeters, or 0.31 to 0.39 inches. These flies have distinctly banded wings. Their dark wing bands include an apical crossband, a preapical crossband, a discal crossband, and a present accessory costal crossband. The head of this fly has two pairs of orbital setae. The scutellum is most commonly entirely cream to yellow in color, and the overall background body color is orange-yellow. This species can be found across most of Europe, specifically recorded in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. It also occurs in the Near East and Central Asia. It has been intentionally or accidentally introduced to the Nearctic realm, where it is found in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, and the US states of Maine and New Hampshire.
