About Rhagium mordax (Degeer, 1775)
Rhagium mordax reaches a length between 13 and 26 millimetres (0.51 to 1.02 inches). Its body is patterned with a mixture of ochre and black. Each of its elytra has one black blotch, with two pale lines on either side of this blotch. The entire body is covered in small yellow hairs, but a key identifying feature of this species is the presence of two hairless bald spots on its elytra. This species has a long, narrow head with a clearly defined neck. A suture is present on the face, and the temples are elongated with a covering of stiff hairs. The antennae are relatively short, and the first antenna segment is wider at the tip and longer than the other segments.
