About Rhagio lineola Fabricius, 1794

Rhagio lineola Fabricius, 1794 is a small fly species that reaches approximately 6 mm in total size. Its legs are predominantly yellowish, with a broad brown band present on both the fore and hind femora. A named variant, var. monticola Verrall, found among Irish specimens of this species, has this distinct banding pattern almost entirely obscured by overall dark body colouration. The entire body of Rhagio lineola is covered in short, yellowish hairs. The scutellum of this species is yellow, with a grey colouration at its base.
