About Rhabdosargus holubi (Steindachner, 1881)

Rhabdosargus holubi, scientifically named Rhabdosargus holubi (Steindachner, 1881), typically reaches around 15 cm (5.9 in) in length, though individual specimens have been recorded at 40 cm (16 in). This species is a shiny silver fish marked with a gold stripe running along its body from head to tail. Its dorsal fin has 11 spines, it has a blunt head, and its mouth holds between 6 and 8 incisors. Juvenile individuals of this species have incisors with cusps. Rhabdosargus holubi is a common fish across its native range, and is one of the most abundant fish species in some parts of that range. It lives in estuaries, specifically including the Kowie Estuary, Msikaba Estuary, West Kleinemond Estuary, Kasouga Estuary, Swartkops Estuary, and Kromme Estuary.
