About Retiboletus griseus (Frost) Manfr.Binder & Bresinsky
Retiboletus griseus has a grayish convex cap that measures 4โ10 centimetres (1+1โ2โ4 inches) wide, with a texture that is either soft or leathery. Its stem is yellowish, growing 4โ10 cm tall and 1โ3 cm (1โ2โ1+1โ4 in) thick. The flesh of the mushroom is whitish, and can turn tannish when exposed or stained. It produces an olive brown spore print. This species grows under oak trees in eastern North America, and can be found there from June through September. Retiboletus griseus is edible, but is frequently infested with worms.
