About Resupinatus applicatus (Batsch) Gray

This fungus, scientifically named Resupinatus applicatus (Batsch) Gray, produces cuplike to convex fruit bodies that measure 0.2 to 0.6 cm (0.1 to 0.2 in) in diameter. The fruit bodies range in color from grayish-blue to grayish-black. Their dry cap surfaces are covered with small, fine hairs. The mushrooms have no stem, and their flesh is firm but gelatinous. Resupinatus applicatus produces a white spore print. As a saprobic species, the fungus grows on decaying wood. It has a wide distribution across North America, Europe, and Australia.
