About Renealmia jamaicensis (Gaertn.) Horan.
Renealmia jamaicensis (Gaertn.) Horan. is a plant species that belongs to the Zingiberaceae family. This species is native to the Caribbean region, with confirmed populations in the Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. It was first formally described by Joseph Gaertner, and its currently accepted scientific name was assigned by Paul Fedorowitsch Horaninow. Renealmia jamaicensis has different regional common names across its native range: Cojatillo in Cuba; Cumaní, Jengibre amarillo, and Jengibre cimarrón in the Dominican Republic; Gingembre marron in Haiti; and Narciso colorado in Puerto Rico. Two varieties of this species are currently recognized: Renealmia jamaicensis var. jamaicensis and Renealmia jamaicensis var. puberula.
