About Rekoa palegon (Cramer, 1780)

Rekoa palegon, commonly known as the gold-bordered hairstreak, is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Lycaenidae. Its native range extends from Argentina northward to Mexico and the West Indies. A single rare stray individual of this species has been recorded in southern Texas, United States. The wingspan of adult Rekoa palegon measures between 23 and 28 mm. This butterfly produces one generation per year. In southern Texas, adults are on wing in early November, while in Mexico, adult flight occurs from May through December. Adult Rekoa palegon feed on nectar from flowers of Senecio and Eupatorium plant species. The larvae of this species feed on a broad variety of plants, including species in the Asteraceae plant family.
