About Rehmannia glutinosa (Gaertn.) Libosch. ex Fisch. & C.A.Mey.
Rehmannia glutinosa, with the full scientific name Rehmannia glutinosa (Gaertn.) Libosch. ex Fisch. & C.A.Mey., is a flowering broomrape. It counts as one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is called shēng dì huáng (Chinese: 生地黄). It is most often sold as gān dì huáng (Chinese: 干地黄), where gān translates to "dried". Unlike most broomrape species, R. glutinosa is not parasitic. It can carry out independent photosynthesis on its own.
