About Redectis vitrea Grote, 1878

Redectis vitrea (common names scalloped snout and white-spotted redectis) is a litter moth in the family Erebidae. This species was first described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1878. In the United States, it is distributed from Illinois down to southeastern Massachusetts, and southward to Texas and Florida. This moth has a wingspan of approximately 18 millimeters. Adult moths can be seen in flight from June through October. In Virginia, this species produces two generations each year. Its larvae feed on a range of plants, including Elaeagnus umbellata, Ceanothus americanus, and species from the Digitaria genus.
