Rattus tanezumi (Temminck, 1845), commonly called the tanezumi rat, is also known by other common names including the Asian rat, Asian house rat, and yellow-breasted or buff-breasted rat; it was previously classified under the scientific name Rattus flavipectus. This species is a rodent that belongs to the family Muridae. It is closely related to the black rat, Rattus rattus. It has a widespread distribution across eastern, southern, and southeastern Asia, and has also been recorded in Fiji and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
