About Ranunculus peltatus Schrank
Ranunculus peltatus Schrank, commonly known as pond water-crowfoot, is a plant species belonging to the genus Ranunculus. It is native to Europe, southwestern Asia, and northern Africa. This herbaceous plant can be either annual or perennial, and it typically grows in slow-moving streams, ponds, and lakes. It produces two distinct types of leaves: broad rounded floating leaves that measure 3 to 5 cm in diameter and have three to seven shallow lobes, and finely divided, thread-like submerged leaves. Its flowers are white with a yellow centre, 15 to 20 mm in diameter, and feature five petals. Some taxonomic authorities recognize two subspecies: subsp. peltatus, which grows in freshwater, and subsp. baudoti (commonly called Brackish Water-crowfoot), which occurs in brackish coastal habitats. Currently, the latter taxon is treated as a fully separate species, Ranunculus baudotii.
