Ransoniella punctata (Linnaeus, 1771) has a shell that ranges in size from 7.5 mm to 20 mm. Its dorsal shell surface is typically pale white or yellowish, marked with small brown spots. This species is distributed in the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean off the coasts of Chagos, Kenya, Madagascar, the Mascarene Basin, Mauritius, Mozambique, Réunion, the Seychelles, Somalia and Tanzania, and also found off the coasts of Australia (Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia) and Vanuatu.
