About Ranoidea phyllochroa (Günther, 1863)
Ranoidea phyllochroa is a fairly small species of tree frog, reaching up to approximately 40 mm (1.6 inches) in length. Its dorsal surface can range in color from light green to dark olive green, and from light brown to dark brown. A pale golden stripe runs from the nostril, across the eye, over the tympanum, and down the side of the body. This golden stripe is underlined by a dark brown stripe that also passes over the tympanum rather than across it. The forelimbs, groin, and thighs are dark red. The toes are three-quarters webbed, and the toe discs are large. The belly is white. This species lives in flowing streams within rainforest, woodland, and wet or dry sclerophyll forest along the coast and ranges of New South Wales. During spring, summer, and autumn, especially on warm nights, males produce an "Erk..Ek..Ek..Derk" call from streamside vegetation. They are often spotted in suburban creeks around Sydney and near the sea.
