About Ramularia rubella (Bonord.) Nannf.

Ramularia rubella (Bonord.) Nannf. is a plant pathogen that belongs to the phylum Ascomycota. It infects plants in the genus Rumex. Infection by this fungus leads to the formation of reddish spots on host leaves. The characteristic red color of these spots comes from the production of rubellin, a photodynamic phytotoxin derived from anthraquinone. Ramularia rubella was first formally described from specimens collected on Rumex aquaticus in Germany, and it now has a wide geographic distribution across multiple Rumex species. It is currently being studied for use as a biological control agent against Rumex obtusifolius.
