About Ramularia grevilleana (Tul. & C.Tul. ex Oudem.) Jørst.

Ramularia grevilleana (Tul. & C.Tul. ex Oudem.) Jørst. is the imperfect stage of the fungal pathogen that causes common spot of strawberry, one of the most common and widespread diseases affecting strawberry plants. This fungal pathogen is very host-specific, and only infects strawberry. The first symptoms of common spot of strawberry appear as circular, dark purple spots on the leaf surface. High rainfall and warm temperatures create the most favorable conditions for this pathogen, leading to rapid disease development. Infections are often most severe during mid to late spring, due to frequent rain showers. The optimal temperature for pathogen growth and disease development is around 25 °C. The pathogen requires 12 or more hours of leaf wetness to successfully cause infection. New, young strawberry foliage is more susceptible to infection by this pathogen than mature, fully developed foliage.
