About Rachiplusia ou Guenée, 1852

Rachiplusia ou, commonly called the gray looper moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. Achille Guenée first described this species in 1852. Its distribution includes the southern and eastern United States, Montana, Nova Scotia, the region ranging from Mexico to Venezuela and Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. The wingspan of adult gray looper moths measures between 31 and 41 mm. Adults are active from May through October across most of its range, and are active year round in the southern United States. The larvae of this moth feed on a variety of herbaceous plants, including Chenopodium ambrosioides, Nicotiana tabacum, Trifolium, Mentha, Triticum aestivum, and Tropaeolum.
