About Quasipaa exilispinosa (Liu & Hu, 1975)

Quasipaa exilispinosa is a species of frog belonging to the family Dicroglossidae. It has multiple common names: Hong Kong spiny frog, common spiny frog, lesser spiny frog, little spiny frog, and Hong Kong paa frog. This frog has a patchy distribution across southern China, including Hong Kong. Its natural habitats are subtropical hill streams located in forests or shrublands; it can sometimes also be found in seepages, stream-fed marshes, and forests. It faces threats from over-collecting for human consumption, as well as from habitat loss. As the common names "lesser spiny frog" and "little spiny frog" suggest, Quasipaa exilispinosa are relatively small among Quasipaa and their related frogs. Males reach an approximate snout–vent length of 61 mm (2.4 in), while females reach about 57 mm (2.2 in). Tadpoles of this species grow up to approximately 39 mm (1.5 in) in length.
