About Pyrops sultanus (Adams & White, 1847)

Scientific name: Pyrops sultanus (Adams & White, 1847)

Identification. This species has a cephalic process (head projection) that is red, with a yellow or peach lower surface. This feature, combined with its mostly white tegmen, sets Pyrops sultanus apart from all other Pyrops species. The only exception is Pyrops erectus, which has a cephalic process that is strongly recurved upwards on its apical half. Additionally, Pyrops erectus is found in Java, so the two species do not have overlapping ranges.
