About Pyrops pyrorhynchus (Donovan, 1800)

Pyrops pyrorhynchus (Donovan, 1800) identification: This species is overall brown, with a red tip on its extended head structure, called a cephalic process. The basal two-thirds of its forewings, which are referred to as tegmina in the Fulgoridae family, range in colour from brown to green. Its colour pattern distinguishes it from all similar species except Pyrops pythicus. It can be told apart from P. pythicus by the outlined circular markings located two-thirds of the way along the tegmen, rather than the unmargined spots found on P. pythicus. Additionally, P. pythicus occurs in Indonesia, while P. pyrorhynchus is distributed across mainland southern and southeastern Asia.
