About Pyrola americana G.Don

Pyrola americana G.Don is a small herb that rarely grows more than 4 cm tall, and spreads via underground rhizomes. Its leaves are round to egg-shaped, reaching up to 8 cm in length, and are typically dark green with whitish tissue along the veins. This species produces white to pinkish flowers, and its fruit is a dry capsule around 4 mm across. It has been recorded in every Canadian province from Newfoundland to Manitoba, St. Pierre & Miquelon, the northeastern United States from Maine south along the Appalachian Mountains to extreme northeastern Tennessee, all Great Lakes states, and the Black Hills of South Dakota. It grows in moist forests at elevations up to 2100 m.
