About Pyrisitia dina (Poey, 1832)

Eurema dina, commonly known as the dina yellow, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Pieridae. This species was first formally described by Felipe Poey in 1832, and is currently classified under the scientific name Pyrisitia dina (Poey, 1832). It ranges from Panama northward to southern Florida in the United States. The wingspan of this butterfly measures between 32–57 mm, which equals 1.3–2.2 inches. In southern Florida, adult dina yellows are active on the wing year-round. Occasional stray individuals have been recorded in southern Texas during November and in southern Arizona during October. Adult butterflies feed on the flower nectar of Lantana, Asclepias, and small-flowered Asteraceae species in South America. Larvae of the species feed on Alvaradoa amorphoides in Florida, and on Picramnia species in Central America.
