About Pyrausta testalis (Fabricius, 1794)
This species is currently referenced by the scientific name Pyrausta testalis (Fabricius, 1794), and is also referred to as Hodebertia testalis in existing distribution records. Adult individuals of this species are white, with two uneven, ragged brown arcs stretching across each wing. The larvae of this species feed on species from three plant genera: Hibiscus, Gomphocarpus, and Asclepias, including the specific species Asclepias curassavica. This is a tropical African species. It has been officially recorded in multiple African locations: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Réunion, Saint Helena, Somalia, South Africa, and Zambia. It occurs only occasionally in Europe, where it has been reported from Croatia, England (specifically St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly), France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland. Outside of Africa and Europe, it has been found in Queensland (Australia), India, Indonesia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, and Yemen.
